About Tampines
Tampines was named after the ironwood tree, or tempinis in Malay, that grew aplenty in the area. As to encourage neighbourliness, the town was the first development built based on a precinct concept in late 1970's, its excellent design also won a UN World Habitat Award in 1992.
Through the years, Tampines town has transformed into one of the most vibrant and developed regional centres which serves residents in the Eastern part of Singapore.
