Marine Parade is the first housing estate built on reclaimed land. Before land reclamation works, the area was part of Katong, and used to be a beach front. Today, Marine Parade is a self-sufficient town with commercial, recreational and leisure facilities interlaced among the HDB blocks. With its proximity to the sea and low-rise developments, Marine Parade also exudes a laid-back atmosphere.
Marine Parade is home to about 23,300 HDB residents and there are about 7,863 flats in the town. It is divided into 5 subzones: East Coast, Katong, Marine East, Marine Parade and Mountbatten. For recreation, East Coast Park is a popular spot for residents and Singaporeans alike. The residents have easy access to the park just across the East Coast Parkway through underpasses linking the estate.
