Origin of the name “Bedok”
The name Bedok comes from an old Malay word “bedoh”, which is a large drum used for calling and to attract people to mosques for prayers. The reason for that was due to the presence of a mosque in the Bedok area during the 1950s.
The Two Shopping Malls
For those of you who think that there are no places for entertainment in Bedok, you are mistaken! That was, well, in the past. Now, there are actually two shopping malls in the Bedok area. Both are conveniently located in the vicinity of the MRT station and the bus interchange in Bedok is located within Bedok Mall.
The Famous Reservoir
Bedok is also one of the earliest towns in Singapore to have its own reservoir. Bedok reservoir was completed in 1986 and its main sources of water come from surface runoff from nearby urban areas.

Bedok Reservoir is a popular spot for watersports enthusiasts who make use of the reservoir for activities such as wakeboarding, sailing, fishing, canoeing and kayaking. Students from the nearby Temasek Polytechnic are often seen conducting watersports activities in the reservoir.
