Toa Payoh is HDB's second satellite town. It was built in 1968 after Queenstown. This well-developed housing estate is a famous residential area in Singapore thanks, in large part to the many significant events that took place here such as, the visits by Queen Elizabeth II in 1972 and 2006, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao in 2007.
It also hosted the South East Asian Peninsular (SEAP) games in 1973. Spanning over an area of 8 sq km with an estimated 150,000 residents, it has more than 36,600 flat units with the majority being 3-room and 4-room flats.
Owing to the high sales of apartments in this area, more residential areas are slated for development in this region in the coming years.
HDB Hub
Toa Payoh, also known as the "big swamp land", used to be the place where people in the old days engaged in farming and pig rearing.
It has since undergone a massive transformation to serve as a focal point for shopping and recreational needs for its residents.
The HDB estates located in Toa Payoh is home to the Housing and Development Board's headquarters and is integrated with Singapore's first fully air-conditioned Toa Payoh Bus Interchange as well as Toa Payoh MRT Station.
These facilities coupled with the weather conditions in this city have led to overwhelming demand for the Toa Payoh HDB estate
