I’m always on the hunt for good hawker food. Something local and authentic yet doesn’t burn a hole in my pocket. For me, nothing beats enjoy local fare in the traditional setting of a hawker centre, where you can still catch beer aunties serving up ah gongs with Tiger Beer.  

My favourite hawker centre is Newton Food Centre. And what I would give to stay near there so I can enjoy different dishes for each day of the week. Especially since Newton is famed for its seafood, it will almost certainly fit into my ‘see food and eat’ diet.

  1. Cheap and good hawker food – check. You can pretty much get very local dish from Newton Food Centre

  2. Top notch coffee at cafes – check. If you’re up for some me-time with a good cuppa in hand, there are plenty of cafés strewn around the area, such as Craftsmen Specialty Coffee.

  3. Nearby supermarkets – check. There’s both an NTUC and Cold Storage supermarket nearby. 

Parents need not fret when it comes to their child’s education seeing as there are myriad of prestigious schools located in the area, such as Anglo-Chinese School (Junior, Barker and Primary), St Joseph’s Institution Junior and Raffles Girls’ School. 


As we all should know by now, health is wealth. Staying in Newton means that by 2030, you will be living close to Health City Novena, which will be Singapore’s largest healthcare complex. Here at this 17-hectatre health hub, you’ll have top hospitals alongside several other healthcare facilities to ensure you can worry less about any health emergencies. In the meantime, there are several top public and private hospitals that are located less than a 15 minutes’ drive away, such as Mount Elizabeth and Tan Tock Seng.
