To date, no HDB development has reached the end of its 99-year lease. The government has always intervened before this happens, through the Selective En-Bloc Redevelopment Scheme (SERS).
Is SERS the answer to the time bomb?
SERS was launched in August 1995 to renews old housing estates. If you are a SERS resident, you will get the opportunity to move to a new home with a new 99-year lease, and continue to live close to your current neighbours. SERS flat owners will also be given a package comprising compensation and rehousing benefits.
Since the launch of SERs initiative, there have been buyers who are willing to pay a premium for HDB units.
