Where’s the best Mexican food in Singapore? Well . . . that depends on how you define best? The food, margaritas, guacamole, or the ambience – sometimes you just want a killer margarita, and the food can be less than spectacular.

Mexican food is very specific to an individual’s taste, so great Mexican food is a very personal choice, with that said, I’ll share with you some of my favorites and why. Caveat . . . I’m not Mexican, so the following are my recommendations, and there are many restaurants that I haven’t had the opportunity to dine at yet.

What makes for a good Mexican restaurant? I’ve listed a few above, and you can certainly expand it to include specific menu items – fajitas, burritos, carnitas, chips & salsa, live music!

My favorites, and in no particular order . . .

Piedra Negra: 241 Beach Rd, Singapore 189753

This is our favorite spot to meet up with friends and grab a few drinks -margaritas of course! The food is good, and the guacamole made at your table is nice, the atmosphere is really chill, but the service can be hit or miss. I like the location and the vibe at the corner of Beach and Haji Lane. Reasonably priced. Overall it’s very solid!

Margaritas: 11 Dempsey Rd, Singapore 249673

As the name indicates, this may be the place to go if you’re looking for a glass or pitcher (Original or Strawberry), and they have several nice traditional Mexican dishes from Carne Asad-La Campestre Completa Para Tados and Milanesa. The food is great, the margaritas fantastic, and service is very good. It’s pricey, but overall it’s very nice!!

Café Iguana: 30 Merchant Road, #01-03 Riverside Point, 058282

A combination of great food, great margaritas*, and a great location, Café Iguana is the perfect place to take your visiting friends and family, located in the Clarke Quay area with plenty of entertainment before or after your meal. They have a great happy hour, but the key is . . . you have to get the premium tequila* for the best margaritas. The food is great, the margaritas are fantastic*, and service is very good. It’s a little on the pricey side, but overall it may be the total package!

La Salsa: 11 Dempsey Rd, Singapore 249673

Located in Dempsey, La Salsa has almost everything you’d want in a Mexican restaurant and a little extra! The food is good (the salsa and guacamole are as fresh as it comes), the margaritas are nice, the atmosphere is really festive and . . . wait for it . . . they have Live music!! but the service can be hit or miss. We like the location and the vibe at the corner of Beach and Haji Lane. Service can be an issue, especially when it’s busy, but have another margarita! It’s pricey, but overall it’s nice!

I’m sure I’ve missed several great Mexican restaurants, so let me know what you think! I’m always up for some good Mexican!!
